Sarah Vure been teaching Art History at Long Beach City College since 2004. Dedicated to student-centered learning, she enjoys sharing her passion for art with her students. Throughout her career, she has taught art history courses ranging from prehistory to contemporary art, as well as American art and the history of photography.

Professor Vure earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Cooper Union in New York, a Master’s of Art and a Ph.D. in Art History, and a Certificate in Museum Studies all from Boston University. Her research focuses on American art, modernism and diversity. A strong advocate for public art, she was pleased to participate in the Inclusive and Culturally Affirming Campus Art Workgroup researching ways to enhance art in public spaces at LBCC. Previously, she served the Long Beach Arts Council reviewing grant proposals for public art projects.

Also a museum professional, Vure has an enduring belief in the power of museums to enrich our communities. As a curator, she organized exhibitions at the Harvard University Art Museums, Orange County Museum of Art, and Skirball Cultural Center. Her essays have been published in numerous exhibition catalogues. As a museum educator and gallery lecturer, she created programs and engaged with visitors from school groups to adults at institutions including the Brooklyn Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.
