ASB Cabinet Elections

The Long Beach City College (LBCC) ASB government serves as the official voice of the students on campus. ASB represents LBCC students to faculty, staff, administrators, and legislators to further promote, and support the ASB through programs, clubs, and organizations. Voting will take place in the month of April for the 2018-2019 academic year. You can review the candidates and their positions as well as vote online starting Tuesday, April 24 at 8:00 am.
Electronic voting booths will be available on the Pacific Coast Campus and the Liberal Arts Campus. Only currently enrolled students are eligible to vote.
The Associated Student Body representatives make up a diverse group of individuals from the community of Long Beach City College. We encourage the continual development of programs, clubs & organizations recognizing the importance of each person’s diverse backgrounds, stimulating the intellectual, physical, social & moral life of our students.
ASB Cabinet Elected Positions
Responsibilities toward becoming an elected Associated Student Body Representative include mandatory weekly meeting commitments. Associated Student Body Cabinet Meetings are held at both the LAC and the PCC. Finance Committee meetings are required for the President, PCC Vice-President and LAC Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
ASB President
The ASB President must serve:
- To officially represent the entire Student Body of LBCC.
- To preside at ASB Cabinet meetings.
- To be an ex-officio member on committees and ASB Leadership Committees.
- To establish all committees not provided for by Bylaws, upon ASB Cabinet approval.
- To Appoint eligible individuals to serve in Appointed ASB Cabinet officer positions, with 2/3 approval.
- To Appoint all District committee members with 2/3 ASB Cabinet approvals.
- To attend the ASB Finance Committee as a voting member.
- To host a social morale event, at both LAC and PCC each semester.
- To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Qualifications include: completed two (2) semesters at Long Beach City College and previously held an ASB or club leadership position prior to assumption of office.
LAC Vice-President
The LAC Vice President must serve:
- To assume the duties of the ASB President in the event of any absence.
- To be responsible for all General and Special Elections.
- To Chair the Elections Committee or recommend an ASB Cabinet officer for approval as the designee.
- To attend the ASB Finance Committee as a voting member.
- To hold accountable all members of the ASB Cabinet by any ethical means to serve the LAC students.
- To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]:: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Qualifications include: One semester of attendance required.
PCC Vice-President
The PCC Vice President must serve:
- To assume the duties of the ASB President in the event of any absence.

ASB Secretary
- The ASB Secretary must serve:
- To keep a complete minute record of the acts and transactions of the ASB Cabinet.
- To conduct official correspondence of the ASB Cabinet and the Associated Student Body.
- To attend the ASB Finance Committee as a voting member.
- To post and distribute ASB Cabinet minutes in an accurate and timely manner.
- To coordinate and scribe all ASB Cabinet meetings and receptions; including but not limited to: making room arrangements, filing, and approvals made by the ASB President and/or the ASB Cabinet.
- To aid the ASB Cabinet in compliance of actions regarding policy and/or procedures.
- To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Qualifications include: One semester of attendance required.
ASB Treasurer
The ASB Treasurer must serve:
- To Chair the ASB Finance Committee.
- To work with the ASB Accounts Supervisor to monitor ASB banking procedures.
- To prepare and present the ASB Budget packet to the ASB Cabinet for approval responsibly and soundly.
- To instruct all Program Treasurers in financial procedures
- To make regular visits to the ASB Bank.
- To ensure that fiscal procedures, guidelines and policies will be consistent with the accounting procedures and internal controls of the Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) manual (http://fcmat.org/2015-asb-accounting-manual-fraud-prevention-guide-and-desk-reference/
- To adhere to posted office hours: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Qualifications include one semester of attendance required.
ASB Student Representative to the Board of Trustees
The Student Representative to the Board of Trustees shall serve as a member of the ASB Cabinet and shall serve for one fiscal year in accordance with the California Education Code.
ASB Cabinet Appointed Positions
Representative of Legislative Affairs
- Serve as Chair of the Legislative Committee.
- Serve as the SSCCC Region VIII representative for LBCC.
- Monitor state and national legislation that affect community college students.
- Coordinate lobbying efforts with college, local, state, and national representative.
- Chair ASB Constitution Committee.
- To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Representative of Arts
- Coordinate ASB activities in the field of fine arts.
- Represent the arts area in developing the ASB budget.
- Help promote and publicize the Creative Arts programs
- Serve as Chair of Homecoming Committee.
- Serve as Chairperson of Spring Sing.
- Be responsible for providing an activity for evening arts students.
- To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]:: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Representative of Athletics
- Coordinate ASB activities in the field of athletics including rallies.
- Represent the Inter Collegiate athletics and Intramurals in developing the ASB budget.
- Promote athletic fund – raisers if conducted during the school year.
- Help promote and publicize athletic programs.
- Be responsible for providing an activity for evening athletic students.
- To adhere to posted office hours [for the members at large]:: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Representative of Publicity
- Produce ASB publicity including, but not limited to, the Nordic Newsletter and election information.
- Coordinate publicity for all Student Body activities, including the programming of message boards, the upkeep of ASB display cases and electronic communications.
- Serve as Chair of the Board of Communications.
- Monitor use and oversee policy of campus signboards along with Board of Communications and Student Affairs, Physical Education & Athletics or designee.
- Represent the areas of communication (newspaper, radio station, and television) in developing the ASB budget.
- Work with LAC Student Senate, PCC Student Senate and other appropriate student groups in the monitoring of publicity.
- Be responsible for the development and management of technology including Orgsync, ASB Webpage, Social Media and electronic signage.

Representative of Sustainability
- To address safety issues of both LAC and PCC, as they relate to students.
- To be the official liaison of Health Services and promotion of related services.
- To coordinate ASB Cabinet participation in Beach Clean-Up in the fall, and other sustainable initiatives for the betterment of the student body.
- To coordinate ASB participation of Earth Day in the spring, and other sustainable initiatives for the betterment of the student body.
- To advocate awareness and publicity of activities of a progressive student environment (i.e. campus clean up, recyclables, Student Health Services).
- To arrange initiatives to of sustainable activities to evening students.
- To adhere to posted office hours[for the members at large]: a minimum of two (2) hours a week; at least one (1) hour at LAC and at least one (1) hour at PCC.
- To maintain and periodically access a predetermined platform of document sharing (i.e. Google Docs, Dropbox, etc…)
Representative of Volunteer Services
- Attend weekly Viking Volunteer meetings as a member.
- Communicate Viking Volunteer Opportunities College-wide.
- Adhere to the rules and regulations of the Viking Volunteers.
- Serve as liaison between the ASB Cabinet and the Viking Volunteer Program.
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit community volunteer opportunities for LBCC students.
- Assist with semi-annual awards reception and annual Volunteer Faire.
Representative of Academic Affairs
- Be the liaison between the ASB Cabinet and campus academia by corresponding regularly with all department deans, academic program Representatives, and academic board Representatives, specifically creating direct and effective communication with the President of the Academic Senate, the Chair of the Curriculum Committee, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Create direct communication with academic organization on campus and other representatives of academics on campus so as to establish and assist with the campus’ academic affairs.
- Be responsible for running an extra-curricular academic activity (i.e. forum or workshop) for evening students.
Representative of Student Support Services
- Be the liaison between the ASB Cabinet and campus Student Support Services area.
- Create direct communication with Student Support areas on campus and other representatives.
- Be responsible for running an extra-curricular academic activity (i.e. forum or workshop) for students.
