Many of our Long Beach City College Foster Youth students have experienced various hardships such as abuse, neglect, homelessness, and food insecurities. Therefore, the Long Beach City College Foster Youth Support Services Program is staffed by a dedicated team that works diligently to help our current and former foster youth students achieve their educational, career, and personal goals. Both NextUp and Guardian Scholar students receive resources through campus and community support that allows them to attend college and provide them with the best opportunities for the future. These incredible resources would simply not be possible without the immense support from our Community Partners. The Anthony and Jeanne Pritzker Family Foundation

The Pritzker Foster Care Initiative is leading our nation’s movement to establish a system of child and family wellbeing and reduce the number of children in foster care. This Initiative ensures that older youth and young adults who have grown up in foster care achieve education and workforce opportunities to support their emotional wellbeing and financial independence.

John Burton Advocates for Youth

This Nonprofit founded by retired State Senator John Burton, works to improve the quality of life for youth in California who have been in foster care or homeless by advocating for better laws, training communities to strengthen local practices and conducting research to inform policy solutions. JBAY aims to reduce homelessness among current and former foster youth in California by constantly working to improve access to safe, affordable and supportive housing through the development of policy and technical assistance.  Through advocacy, collaboration and training, it is ensured that all foster youth have access to the necessary physical and mental health services that are vital to their well-being and success.

iFoster

A national non-profit with over 60,000 members nationwide serving over 250,000 children in care and transition-age youth every year. iFoster’s mission is to ensure that every child growing up outside of their biological home has the resources and opportunities they need to become successful. They connect kids in the foster care system with products, services, knowledge, and supportive adults that can best help them reach their full potential. 

Foster Nation

An organization is on a mission to engage the community to support and empower youth aging out of the foster care system to become self-sufficient. At the core of their work is the belief that we have the power to become better than our life circumstances. Through career mentors and trainings, foster youth receives help to become even more amazing than they already are by honing their professional skills as they prepare to become self-sufficient young adults. Foster Nation also provides resources and connections that support and meet the basic needs of foster youth. They host events that build a relatable, supportive and collaborative community for foster youth to feel heard, valued, and supported. Through campaigns that bring the foster care experience to light and empower foster youth to become self-advocates, iFoster raises awareness about changing the foster care narrative.

Foster Love

Previously known as “Together We Rise,” Foster Love is a non-profit that makes the foster care experience better for the 430,000 children going through it. comprised of motivated young adults and former foster youth. This organization works with thousands of volunteers, social workers, CASA advocates, and other partners to transform the way children experience foster care. Their programs are created to provide a way for people who cannot become foster parents to still have a meaningful and effective way to help children in foster care. Foster Love provides assistance to children in foster care and the foster community at large. They currently offer diverse services for foster youth through tangible resources, educational scholarships, and supplemental support to foster agencies and foster parents.

Echoes of Hope

Founded by Stacia and Luc Robitaille, Echoes of Hope strives to awaken the spirit of hope in the lives of children, youth, and young adults in need by alleviating barriers and helping them reach their full potential. This non-profit has helped thousands of at-risk and emancipated foster youth succeed by providing the resources, love, and support they so richly deserve.

The Stacy R. Mungo Flanigan Endowment Fund

The Stacy R. Mungo Flanigan Endowment Fund at Long Beach City College was established in May 2019, by a gift of $40,000 from Sterling Franklin, Trustee of the Morris S. Smith Foundation, and a friend of Stacy. The Fund was created to honor Stacy R. Mungo Flanigan for her fine work as an employee of the County of Los Angeles and her valuable service as a Member of the Long Beach City Council. It was also to celebrate her wedding on March 25, 2017. This gift is to provide cash awards each year, as funding permits, to eligible students attending Long Beach City College in the Guardian Scholars Program. This gift is also meant to encourage friends and alumni of LBCC to consider establishing similar LBCC endowment funds.
