The Federal Government’s Role
The ACCJC is recognized by the Department of Education which establishes regulations for institutional quality and these regulations have been built into the Eligibility Requirements, Commission Policies, and Standards at ACCJC. Demonstrating that an institution has met standards and requirements of accreditation is important so that the federal financial aid can be distributed to students at Long Beach City College. It also informs other institutions of higher education of the quality of education provided at LBCC and therefore, allows students to transfer their coursework. Meeting federal requirements provides the public and prospective students confidence in the quality of the education, as well as potential employers who will hire students with credentials from LBCC and/or send employees to our courses/programs for skills building.
