Dr. Lee Douglas Appointed As LBCC VP of Academic Affairs
Dr. O. “Lee” Douglas will return to Long Beach City College (LBCC) as the next Vice President of Academic Affairs, overseeing the College’s academic programs and deans. Douglas was confirmed by the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees on June 23 and begins his new position today, Aug. 2.
“We congratulate and welcome Dr. Douglas back to Long Beach City College as Vice President of Academic Affairs,” said LBCCD Board President Uduak-Joe Ntuk. “I look forward to him working with our faculty and staff as we continue to advance our racial equity work to help all students reach their academic goals.”
Hired by LBCC in 2001, Dr. Douglas was a full-time faculty member for 15 years in the LBCC Learning and Academic Resources Department where he served as Department Head for eight of those years. While a faculty member, he also served on the Academic Senate and the Senate Executive Committee. In 2015, he was named Dean of the School of Language Arts, Communication and Learning Resources and was selected as an Outstanding Colleague by his peers in 2019. In September of 2020, he was promoted to Vice President of Instruction at Cypress College.
“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to return to a place that I consider home,” Douglas said. “I look forward to working with the incredibly dedicated faculty, staff, and administrators at LBCC, to continue focusing on student success and expanding transformative work toward closing equity gaps and working toward racial and social justice.”
The Carson resident received his Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Pepperdine University, his Master’s degree in Education from CSU Dominguez Hills, and his Ed.D. Community College Leadership from National American University.
“Dr. Douglas has long been one of the most well-respected figures at LBCC, and he brings a multitude of academic leadership experience to our forming executive team,” said LBCCD Interim Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Muñoz. “I am more than confident he will support our faculty and students with the grace, intelligence, and dedication he has always shown.”
Registration is now open for LBCC’s Fall 2021 Semester, which runs from Aug. 30 – Dec. 18. For more information or to enroll, visit www.LBCC.edu.
