The Associate in Science in Biology for Transfer program provides students with a foundation in core principles of biological sciences, including scientific reasoning, cell/molecular biology, principles of genetics, evolution, organismal, and ecology in preparation for transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in biology at a university. Students at the four-year university have the opportunity to pursue a Bachelor’s degree specializing in areas such as anatomy and physiology, botany, cell and molecular biology, clinical science, ecology, environmental biology, field biology, marine biology, microbiology, organismal biology, or zoology. A bachelor’s degree in biology may lead to opportunities in graduate/professional school or careers in research, biotechnology, dentistry, pharmacy, medicine, and veterinary medicine among many other diverse fields.

Where can I find Biology Tutors?
The Multidisciplinary Success Center has science specific tutors who provide individualized tutoring. Students can sign up for half an hour time slot.
Where do students majoring in Biology transfer?
Many students who have earned an associate degree in biology transfer to a University to continue their studies in a biological science program. Former students now attend California Universities such as UC Berkeley and California State University, Long Beach.

What is the difference between the Biological Science degree and the Biology degree?
The local Biological Science degree has three different emphases: Terrestrial and Sustainability, Marine Science, and Health Science. A student interested in focused course work in any of these areas may consider earning the local degree. The Biology degree is a transfer degree that satisfies the transfer requirements needed to attend a CSU.
Do I need to major in Biology to apply to Medical school or any other Allied Health program?
No, medical schools and other Allied Health programs do not require an applicant to earn a degree in Biology. However, these programs do require an applicant to complete a series of prerequisite science courses either prior to applying or before beginning the program.
