The goal of a librarian is to help people gain knowledge. Among its many services, the Library Department offers the Library Technician Program, which teaches the core skills and competencies today’s librarians need to help people access the vast resources at their disposal. Students learn library essentials such as acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, public access catalogs, and techniques of information retrieval from the internet and other related search systems and technology. The department offers an associate degree and a certificate of achievement, laying the foundation for students to pursue careers in public and private libraries, schools, and other information-related industries. Designed in accordance with American Library Association guidelines, the program prepares students for entry-level work and current library staff for advancement opportunities.
