The African-American/Black Student Support Fund functions on the belief that all identifying African American and Black students deserve an opportunity to succeed. This support fund seeks to provide financial assistance for African American and Black identifying students to successfully navigate higher education in a safe and culturally responsive manner. The African-American/Black Student Support Fund formalizes the guarantee of access to higher education and promotes greater educational attainment for the Black and African American community of Long Beach.
Students that identify as Black comprise 14% of the LONG BEACH COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT student body. The average course success rate for Black students is 56%, which is 11% lower than the LBCC general student body average course success rate and 18% lower than the course success rate for White students.
