Long Beach Community College District Board Of Trustees To Meet On Sept. 12
The Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees monthly meeting in September will take place on Wed., Sept. 12. This is a change from the usual Board meetings taking place on Tuesdays.
LBCC Slashes $10.4 Million from Budget
Budget reduced without layoffs or cuts to educational programs
Long Beach City College dramatically reduced its preliminary 2017-2018 $10.7 million budget deficit to $300,000 without layoffs or cuts to programs.
The deficit was reduced through cuts in expenses and an aggressive enrollment push. In addition, a number of employees accepted the Supplemental Employee Retirement Plan (SERP) that the College offered last June which allowed strategic reorganization of staff.
LBCCD approves 4-year contract for Superintendent-President
The Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees approved a new four-year contract this week for their Superintendent-President Dr. Reagan F. Romali.
“Dr. Romali’s accomplishments have been significant during the short one-year time period she has been with us at Long Beach City College,” said Board President Sunny Zia. “We are lucky to have her and are proud of the fact we were able to bring a leader with her level of knowledge and experience to our college district.”

Nearly 800 Long Beach City College students participated in the annual Commencement Ceremony at Long Beach City College’s Veterans Stadium tonight, June 7.

Maritime Center of Excellence Launched in Long Beach
Workforce training program to be based at Long Beach City College
Port of Long Beach and Long Beach City College leaders officially launched an innovative new program today to provide opportunities to local students seeking the employment skills they need to join the goods movement workforce.
The Port of Long Beach Maritime Center of Excellence at Long Beach City College will target a variety of programs for occupations in the global logistics and supply chain industries that require more education than a high school diploma, but less than a four-year college degree.
Zia, Malauulu to lead LBCC Board
Trustee Sunny Zia was elected President of the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees and Trustee Vivian Malauulu was elected Vice President at the Board’s July 24 meeting. In this role, Zia will preside over the meetings of the Board and act as chief spokesperson for the Board, among other duties. The positions are elected annually among the five Board members, to a one-year term.
